These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of extremetica.com (the “Site”) operated by Extremetica (“we,” “us,” or “our”). By accessing or using the Site, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.
1. Use of the Site
We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Site for your own personal, non-commercial purposes. You agree not to:
- Use the Site in any way that violates applicable law or these Terms.
- Attempt to interfere with, disrupt, or gain unauthorized access to the Site or its servers.
- Use automated means to scrape, harvest, or systematically copy substantial portions of the Site beyond normal browsing and ordinary search-engine indexing.

2. Scientific content and the tools – important disclaimer
The Site publishes educational and informational content and provides interactive tools that visualize publicly available astronomical data. This content is provided for general information and curiosity only. It is not professional, scientific, academic, or any other form of expert advice, and should not be relied upon as such.
The tools use real measurements and published formulas, but they are simplified models intended to build intuition. Among other things:
- Underlying data is sourced from third parties and is provided “as is,” without any warranty of accuracy, completeness, or timeliness.
- Derived or calculated values (such as habitable-zone boundaries, equilibrium temperatures, or similarity indices) are estimates produced by simplified models and carry uncertainties not shown in a single headline figure.
- A planet appearing “in the habitable zone” does not mean it is habitable or Earth-like.
We make reasonable efforts to present data faithfully and to correct errors when we learn of them, but we do not warrant that any content or computed value is accurate, current, or fit for any particular purpose.
3. Intellectual property
The original text, design, graphics, and software of the Site are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by intellectual-property laws. The underlying scientific data we display is drawn from public sources (including the NASA Exoplanet Archive) and remains subject to the terms and attribution requirements of those sources; our presentation of it does not grant you rights to it beyond those. You may share links to the Site and quote brief excerpts with attribution, but you may not reproduce substantial portions of our original content without permission.
4. Third-party links and data sources
The Site links to and incorporates data from third-party websites and repositories we do not control. We are not responsible for their content, availability, accuracy, or practices, and linking to them does not imply endorsement.
5. Advertising
The Site may display advertising provided by third-party networks. We are not responsible for the content of advertisements or for products or services offered by advertisers.
6. Disclaimer of warranties
The Site and all content and tools are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Site will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.

10. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in North Carolina.
